The Perrons

The Conjuring is one of the best horror movies I have seen and believe me, I have seen tons of horror movies. We follow Ed and Lorraine Warren through their investigation. Since the 1970s, this husband-and-wife duo of self-proclaimed demonologists has claimed to have been fighting otherworldly evil. They publicized their work through lecture tours, publications, and television appearances, detailing their experiences with haunted houses, demonic toys, and possessed individuals.

The first Conjuring movie came out 8 years ago, on 19 July 2013. ‘Based on a true story, it raises concern for every horror movie viewer. Most of the viewers do not consider the films as being 100 % true, but still, the thoughts that some part of it may be legitimate is enough to provide goosebumps.

How Much Is It True?

While the movie focuses more on Ed and Lorraine Warren’s investigations, we do get to meet the Perrons, the family that calls the Warrens for their services, they moved into a farmhouse in Harrisville, Rhode Island. Their family consists of 7 members, the parents and their five daughters.

According to the interviews the family gave, the paranormal activity began quite quickly after they moved in and were insignificant in the beginning. Objects were moving by themselves or they could hear noises when no one was around.

The mother, Carolyn, of course, did some research about the property and find out the atrocious events that happened there; rape, suicide, murder and a lot more blood-curdling events.

The children confessed that they knew about the existence of the spirits around the house as some played with them and we’re not harming but the situation would not last, as the ‘kind’ spirits were soon replaced with something more terrorizing.

The True Story Even Scarier…

The film was scary but after my research, I can tell that the true story of The Perrons’ family is even scarier. The Warrens concluded that the dominant spirit of the house was the one of a satanist mother who once occupied the house.

In several interviews, the family members explain how they were tortured not only emotionally but physically as well. Every neighbor advises the family upon their arrival to leaving the lights on at night. At this point, the family members should have known that something did not sit right with their house.

THE WARRENS DID NOT HELP

Ed and Lorraine’s Warrens are very well known now, with their multiple paranormal cases that we get to follow through their films and books. But several people started to doubt their claims.

As opposed to what is showed in the film, Carolyn Perrons did not contact the Warrens, it is a friend of hers that contact Lorraine and the Warren immediately demand to investigate the case. They were welcome as the matriarch of the family was desperate.

The family claimed that The Warrens made things worse. In the film, it is showed that the Warrens helped the family by cleaning the house of all evil spirits and they can live peacefully. This did not happen in reality.

The family recalled a ritual performed by Ed and Lorraine Warren, which was terrifying as if the spirits were more upset that the Perrons contacted the demonologists. So, the Warrens never got rid of the spirit, the family was never cleansed nor did they get to live peacefully. The Warrens visited them from time to time.

The Perrons left in 1980, 10 years after they moved in and were never able to live peacefully. Even after leaving the house, The Perrons claimed that they could feel that they were not alone and would always be traumatized by the events that took place in the farmhouse.
